Major Reforms in GATE 2021 and Eligibilty requirements.

Yes.It is official. Engineering students studying in their third year can now attempt the GATE exam. Which means GATE exam committee have relaxed the criteria for attempting the exam in the third year itself for the engineering students, starting from GATE 2021. Earlier there were students who thought and decided to attempt the exam and started studying accordingly. But they were being forced to wait for an extra year to attempt the exam. And as the GATE score is valid for about three years, students could take up the exam in third year itself and could use the rank obtained for admission after they finish their B.E or B.tech Degree.

Also, many students could take advantage of trying the attempt towards the exam in the third year to test their knowledge or to make changes into their study behavior and patterns . So that in their final year it could help them score more and improve their rank in the exam. As the NEP is introduced, there are a lot of exciting changes happening in the education system of India and this step by the GATE committee looks promising and could help students develop a better India.

Moreover students from the arts, science, commerce and architecture can also take up GATE exam.

More such reforms in the education system could develop a better research culture in India.

There are a bit changes in syllabus of some subjects. And most interestingly now one could attempt GATE exam in multiple subjects. Multiple here means a maximum of two subjects. Say, you are from Electronic And Communication branch and you find your interest in another subject of Instrumentation Engineering or say you need to have masters in physics, it is now possible to attempt GATE exam in any two subjects that you are interested in. Yes, you have to pay for both the subjects if you fill the application for two subjects, but you need not fill the separate application for the second subject you choose. But here's a catch. You could only choose the subject combination that is suggested by the GATE committee. Below you can find the combination of the subjects mentioned.

Along with these changes, there also has been addition of a new question type. Previously there were only MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and NATs (Numerical Answer Types), this year a new format, MSQ (Multiple Select Question) is being introduced. The pattern is same as MCQ, there will be questions of 1 mark and 2 marks, however there is no negative marking if the selected option is wrong. Also, no credit or mark even if the partial or single selected option is right or wrong. The mark for the question will only be credited if all the multiple selected options are right.
