Maharashtra's Universities and Colleges to Reopen soon: Uday Samant

Maharashtra's Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant today announced on Facebook Live that the decision to commence colleges under state universities in the presence of 50 per cent students would be taken up after discussing it with Maharashtra's Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray by January 20, 2021. He interacted with students, principals, professors on his Facebook page to discuss faculty recruitment, college questions, barriers to admission process and other topics.

He said the decision to start colleges with 50 per cent attendance would be taken after reviewing the university and college hostels, local conditions. He clarified that the decision to fill other institutional vacancies and assistant professor posts in the university would be taken soon as per the approval given to the principal recruitment.

Samant said that all the admission deadlines to the courses of technical education have been extended till January 15. He said that the deadline for admission has been extended for another two days on Monday and Tuesday, as some technical glitches might exist and which includes connectivity issues. Also, it has been raining in some parts of Maharashtra, which might cause delay in the admission process.

He said that Yashwantrao Chavan Open University has decided to set up centers at district level, interstate and in border areas. Discussions and efforts are underway in this regard. A state-of-the-art data center has been set up at Gondwana University. He said the decision was taken to set up a model college in remote areas like Gadchiroli.
